Question

How many incidents can be included in XML file submissions?

Answer

A file can contain multiple incidents.  Each incident appears within its own <Report> tag, and a file can contain any number of these <Report> tags. However, we have a size limit of 64MB per file.

Many of the tags used to report an incident require IDs, which are used later in the report to link different objects, for example linking locations to offenses or subject to arrests. These IDs must be unique across the whole file when a file contains multiple incidents.

Some vendors generate unique standalone IDs; others use a combination of the incident number and some ID that is unique within the incident.

Suggestion for troubleshooting big files: When we have so many incidents in a file, it could become difficult to troubleshoot. If you can't quickly identify the issue of a big file, please split it into smaller ones to locate the problem incident.
